MC-110 Implementing, and Administering Microsoft Windows 2000 Directory Services

 

Course Description

Students enrolled in this course will learn to analyze the business requirements and design the directory service architecture including: unified directory services, such as Active Directory and Windows NT domains; connectivity between and within systems, system components, and applications; and data replication, such as directory replication and database replication.  In addition, students will develop the skills required to analyze business requirements for desktop management and design a solution that meets those requirements.  This course aids in preparation for the MCSE Designing a Microsoft Windows 2000 Directory Services Infrastructure Exam 70-217.

1.0 Installing and Configuring Active Directory

     1.1 Install forests, trees, and domains.

     1.2 Create sites, subnets, site links, and connection objects.

     1.3 Configure server objects. Considerations include site

           membership and global catalog designation.

     1.4 Transfer operations master roles.

     1.5 Verify and troubleshoot Active Directory installation.

     1.6 Implement an organizational unit (OU) structure.

2.0 Installing, Configuring, Managing, Monitoring, and

       Troubleshooting DNS for Active Directory

     2.1 Install and configure DNS for Active Directory.

     2.2 Manage, monitor, and troubleshoot DNS.

3.0 Configuring, Managing, Monitoring, Optimizing, and

       Troubleshooting Change and Configuration Management

     3.1 Implement and troubleshoot Group Policy.

     3.2 Manage and troubleshoot user environments by using Group

           Policy.

 

     3.3 Install, configure, manage, and troubleshoot software by using

           Group Policy.

     3.4 Manage network configuration by using Group Policy.

     3.5 Configure Active Directory to support Remote Installation

           Services (RIS).

4.0 Managing, Monitoring, and Optimizing the Components of

       Active Directory

     4.1 Manage Active Directory objects.

     4.2 Monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot Active Directory

           performance and replication.

     4.3 Back up and restore Active Directory.

5.0 Configuring, Managing, Monitoring, and Troubleshooting

       Security in a Directory Services Infrastructure

     5.1 Apply security policies by using Group Policy.

     5.2 Create, analyze, and modify security configurations by using

           the Security Configuration and Analysis snap-in and the

           Security Templates snap-in.

     5.3 Implement an audit policy.

     5.4 Monitor and analyze security events.

Teaching Strategies

A variety of teaching strategies may be utilized in this course including but not limited to:  lecture, discussion, written classroom exercises, written lab exercises, performance based lab exercises, demonstrations, quizzes, and examinations. Some of the quizzes may be entirely or contain lab based components. A mid course and end course examination will be given.

A student earning a grade of D or above is considered to have passed the course and is eligible to pursue further studies.  A student receiving a grade of F has failed a course.  A failed course must be repeated and passed to meet LTI graduation requirements, in addition to an overall program GPA of 2.0

 

 

Requirements for Successful Completion of the Course

At a minimum, students must achieve the following: a passing grade of D or above, completion of all required examinations, submission of all required lab exercises and projects, and adherence to the school attendance policy.
